Artists are often thought of as being self-indulgent and aloof.  Of course some are, but so are some accountants and physicists.  Good artists however are enlivened by taking part in bringing something into existence.  So are good physicists but it’s doubtful that good accountants think of themselves as catalysts of inception.  Sure physicists are actually just finding something that was always there, giving it a name and drawing a map, while accountants are often making one thing look like another.  True there are economists that devise impressive socioeconomic treaties and physicists that tinker with offsetting the balance of things for tangible gain.

The point is that good Artists, Theorists and Academics are trying to lend a certain clarity to people’s experience by enacting a process that makes a goal more accessible.  There are those that find the journey as enjoyable as the destination; but finding enjoyment in journeying is in large part the anticipation of unexpected destinations.

I make it a point to appreciate where they’re all coming from, while also anticipating where they’ll wind up – for better or worse.
